The Tom Ridge Environmental Center Foundation and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) have collaborated to present a new exhibit at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) that highlights ducks at Presque Isle.
Fowl Weather Friends: The Ducks of Presque Isle occupies the former café space on the first floor of TREC. The exhibit explores ducks that are year-round residents of our region as well as those that pass through on their migratory journeys. It features incredible taxidermy specimens so visitors can marvel at the vibrant plumage, observe their stunning coloring and note the varying body shapes, sizes and features of distinct species.
The exhibit also offers the chance to learn about the local tradition of duck hunting at Presque Isle State Park and how it is managed as part of national efforts in duck banding and conservation. A full-size duck blind has been constructed inside TREC to give visitors a first-hand look at the temporary structures that pop up at Presque Isle during late fall each year.
Accompanying the exhibit is a 10-minute video about a unique species, the Wood Duck. This playful yet informative video will keep the attention of all ages and is showing Tuesdays – Saturdays at 11:30 am, 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm on the Big Green Screen at TREC. Come learn about the bold courage that defines this remarkable duck!
