The Tom Ridge Environmental Center Foundation, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Regional Science Consortium, and Erie Bird Observatory have partnered to present Wetland Wonders of Presque Isle, a new exhibit at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) celebrating the remarkable wetland habitats of Presque Isle State Park. On view in TREC's second-floor rotating exhibit space from January 31 through May 30, 2026, the exhibit invites visitors beyond the park's popular beaches and trails to explore its rich interior wetlands, including marshes, ponds, and wet meadows.
Wetlands make up nearly 60 percent of Presque Isle State Park and support an extraordinary diversity of plant, animal, and aquatic life. Wetland Wonders of Presque Isle highlights the critical role these habitats play in improving water quality, supporting migratory birds along the Atlantic Flyway, and serving as a regional biodiversity hotspot. The exhibit also showcases more than a decade of collaborative wetland restoration work by DCNR, the Regional Science Consortium, and the Erie Bird Observatory, focusing on invasive species management and habitat recovery that balance conservation with public recreation.
A community opening celebration will be held on January 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., featuring interactive stations and hands-on activities. Visitors can explore stunning photos and videos, learn about wetland wildlife, examine tiny organisms under a microscope, and discover ways to get involved in protecting these vital ecosystems.
Wetland Wonders of Presque Isle will be on view at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, 301 Peninsula Drive, from January 31 through May 30, 2026.
